The number of attacks and home invasions that are occurring during both the day and night is causing people to worry about whether they are safe in their homes. It doesn’t matter anymore that you might live in a safe neighborhood or that the people around you are normal and upstanding citizens. Without the necessary security systems you are putting you and your family at risk.
Many people understand this and it is why they will invest in a home security system that will protect their doors and every inch of their home. There are two types of systems that can be purchased; wired and wireless. Both of them have the same features and are able to protect the home in the same way. The only difference is that one requires wires in order to call for authorities or trigger the alarm.
There are two disadvantages to using a wired security system. The first is that it can be easy for burglars to disconnect all of the wires to the system and make it ineffective. The second is that it can be rather difficult for us to install. Not all of us understand what the wires are for and are not as handy as we would like.
Installing Wireless Security Systems
- When purchasing a wireless security system you want to find something that will offer you the level of protection that you need. Make sure that it comes with sensors for the doors and windows, two control panels (one next to the door and the other in the master bedroom), and a system that will automatically alert the authorities for you in the case of a break in or fire. These systems can cost anywhere between $10 to $200 depending on where you get it from and what brand you use.
- The control receiver for the system needs to be in a place where an intruder cannot easily find it.
- You should purchase two control panels. The first one needs to be installed next to the front door or the door that you use most where you can turn it on and off quickly. Also place one in your master bedroom. Place the provided screw into the wall and then slide the control panel onto them.
- The inside alarm siren needs to be put in a place where the intruder will not be able to get to it or muffle it when it is set off. Try to locate it close to the bedroom so that at night you will hear it immediately.
- Use the necessary adhesive strips to secure each half of the magnetic sensors to the doors and windows. When placing them on the doors try to put them on the top so they cannot be easily removed.
- Follow the necessary instructions to program a pass code into the control panel. Choose something that you and your family can easily remember – but not something that other people can guess. Birthdays, anniversaries, social security numbers, and addresses are some of the easiest to crack.
- Once you have set everything up you need to test the system to make sure that it is working properly. Have someone open every door and window to test the sensors and see if they will trigger the alarm. While you do this make sure that the signal strength to every sensor is strong.
