It is important that we have some form of protection in our home. You might assume that you are safe because you live in a nice neighborhood where nothing seems to happen – but things can surprise you. Many people are shocked by brutal crimes and burglaries that happen on the same street they live on.
In life you have to expect the unexpected and take precautions when you can. By installing a home security system you are protecting your family whether you are there with them or not.
Make sure that you research the various systems and find one that you can afford and that will cover every area of the home that you are most worried about. In this instance cost might be something you should overlook.
The first step you need to take is to install the main component to the system. It is always important to place this inside of a closet or in any part of the house where it cannot be noticed by outsiders.
The keypad is used to arm and disarm the system. For a more expensive model it will also give you the ability to send out an emergency signal to a company that will alert the police or fire department at the click of a button. There should be a keypad at every entrance to the home including the door leading to the garage.
Next you will need to install the sensors on every door and window in the home. Each one should be wired or connected through a wireless connection back to the main component. When the system is armed the sensors will trigger it if someone should open or close any door or window.
Any system that you buy will have to be programmed in its own specific way. You must refer to the instructions manual for this. Make sure that you set up a ‘home’ armed mode just for the sensors and an ‘away’ armed mode for everything in the house. Also make sure that the system is connected to a company that will be notified if the alarm is triggered.
