Garage Door Monitors

A burglar is resourceful and will find more ways than one to break into your home. If the front and back doors are cannot be easily broken into they will move to the garage door. The best way to protect yourself against this is to install a garage door monitor. These are small devices that use infrared beams and radio signals to control the opening and closing of the doors and to let you know when someone has opened them.

There are several different types of monitors that you can use. The most common of these is a safety sensor that is required on every garage door. These are designed with two part sensors that are mounted on either side of the garage door along the rails and six inches from the floor. An infrared beam connects the two sensors and will stop the door from closing when something is blocking it.

Another type are pressure sensors that are installed on the bottom edges of the garage door. When these sensors come into contact with people or objects the door will keep from closing and reverse to the open position.

Last but not least are the battery operated monitors which are attached directly to the door. It sends radio signals to the monitor panel that is installed inside of the home. When the garage door is left open for too long it will send the signal back to the monitor. It will then automatically close the doors and send off an alarm

Garage door monitors can cost anywhere between $10 to $100 and are able to be installed without the need of professional help. It is possible to purchase these along with a system that is installed throughout the home through a home security company. However, this will cost a great deal more.
