Door Security Sensors

For some of us simply having a special or reinforced lock on the door is not enough to make us feel safe and secure in our home. We want something that will alert us to an intruder the moment that it happens whether we are at the home or not. It is said that one of the best ways to keep burglars from your home is to scare them off with an alarm system.

Those of you who do not wish to spend large amounts of money on purchasing a high tech alarm system can opt for a type of door security sensor instead. These sensors are installed on the top of each door in your home including the garage door if you have one. They are built with magnets that will secure each doorway and will sound of an alarm when someone opens them.

The magnet is attached to the sensor and helps to keep the voltage and power flowing through it to the circuit area at all times when the doors are kept closed. When the door is opened the voltage is broken and this will trigger the alarm. When this is effective the burglar will be caught unawares by the noise and you will be woken up in time to call authorities.

In order for the home security sensors to be effective you need to purchase a unit that comes with the necessary components and features that will create a safe home for you and your family. Each one should come with a transformer, battery, alarm, and control keypad.

Installing Door Security Sensors

  • The first thing you will need to do is use a stud finder to find a stud that is closest to the top of the door frame. If there is no stud or you are unable to find one then use a drywall anchor to help secure the sensor to the wall.
  • Have someone hold the door sensor to the wall while you level it and make a mark where the top of the unit should be. Make sure that you also mark where the screw holes need to be.
  • Use an electric drill to make holes for the screws or the drywall anchor. One you have done this you can insert the anchor or screws into the wall and secure the unit into the wall.
  • The magnetic switches need to be placed on the door jamb so that they come together with the sensor when the door is closed. Mark the location of the switches and use the electric drill for the pilot holes.
  • Secure the magnetic switches into the door jamb. When this is finished you will be ready to install your home security system to know when the signal from this sensor is triggered.
